Acceptable Use Policy
Run what you like, as long as it is legal and does not harm other people, other networks or other customers. This page spells out where that line sits.
1. Purpose
This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to every service and to anyone using them, including your own customers. You are responsible for their use as if it were your own.
2. Illegal and harmful content
You may not use our services to host, transmit or link to:
- Child sexual abuse material in any form. We terminate immediately without notice and report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and law enforcement.
- Content or activity that violates US law, including fraud, terrorism, export control or sanctions violations.
- Phishing pages, malware, ransomware, exploit kits or command-and-control servers.
- Material that infringes copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights.
- Content that threatens, harasses or incites violence against people, or publishes their private information without consent.
3. Network abuse
- Denial-of-service attacks or tools that launch them, including stresser and booter services.
- Port scanning, vulnerability scanning or brute-force attempts against systems you do not own or have written permission to test.
- IP spoofing, forged packet headers or announcing IP space you are not authorized to use.
- Open proxies, open DNS resolvers, open mail relays or other services that can be abused by third parties.
- Botnets or any unauthorized access to another system.
4. Email
Bulk or commercial email must follow the CAN-SPAM Act and go only to recipients who opted in. Every message needs a working unsubscribe link and accurate sender information. Port 25 is closed on new virtual servers and opens on request once the account is in good standing. Listing of our IP space on a major blocklist such as Spamhaus because of your traffic is treated as a violation.
5. Resource use
- Cryptocurrency mining, plotting and farming are not allowed on virtual or GPU servers. They are allowed on dedicated servers.
- Sustained use of 100% of shared CPU or disk I/O for long periods may be throttled so other customers are not affected. We will contact you first where possible.
- Public file sharing of copyrighted material through BitTorrent or similar networks is not allowed.
6. Allowed with prior approval
Some legitimate uses attract abuse complaints. Write to us before running them so we can set them up correctly:
- Tor exit nodes, which need correct reverse DNS and a published exit policy. Tor relays and bridges need no approval.
- Authorized penetration testing or security research that reaches outside your own servers.
- Public VPN or proxy services offered to third parties.
7. Copyright complaints
We respond to notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512. Send notices and counter-notices to support@gpulayer.org with the information required by the Act. We forward valid notices to the customer, who has 48 hours to respond or remove the material. Accounts with repeated valid notices are terminated.
8. Enforcement
| Situation | What we do |
|---|---|
| First report of a minor issue | Forward it to you and ask for a response within 24 hours |
| No response or repeated issue | Suspend the affected service until fixed |
| Active attack, phishing or malware | Suspend or null-route immediately, then contact you |
| Child abuse material or deliberate abuse | Terminate without refund and report where required |
We are not obliged to monitor your content, but we will act on reports and on what our network telemetry shows. We may cooperate with law enforcement and other network operators to stop abuse.
9. Report abuse
Email support@gpulayer.org with the IP address involved, the time with time zone, and logs or headers that show the activity. We acknowledge reports within 24 hours.
